Aspen Snowmass During Spring Break

Activities, Aspen Events, Snowmass Events, Vacation Prep

Springtime in Colorado isn’t the same as springtime in the South or on the coast. Aside from the longer days (thanks to Daylight Savings), it’s very similar to winter! The crowds that come to the Aspen Snowmass high country for spring break are generally seeking ample adventure, stunning scenery, and socializing galore.

Spring breaks for schools across the country are widely distributed between mid-March and early April. If you’re visiting the Aspen area for spring break, you already know how wonderful our ski town can be in the spring. The (slightly) warmer days and increased sunshine mean that your vacation adventures can continue well into the evening. If you’re new to spring break in Aspen, here’s how we suggest you maximize those springtime vacation memories:

Spring Break Skiing

No Aspen spring break is complete without a run at each of our four ski areas! With four mountains to choose from (each with its own character and terrain), there’s more than enough room for skiers and snowboarders chasing the season’s snow. March is historically Aspen's snowiest month, so there's a good chance you’ll enjoy many days on the mountains. The mountains won’t start closing down until early to late April, so get out there and enjoy the benefits of an entire season’s worth of snowpack!

Spring Break at Elk Camp

Through the end of March, you’re invited up to Elk Camp (take the Elk Camp Gondola from Snowmass Base Village) on Friday evenings for an Ullr Night celebration. Enjoy snowy spring evening activities such as tubing, snowshoe tours, and snow biking, then cozy up to the fire for hot cocoa and s’mores. For more of an adrenaline rush, take a run or two down the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster. You’ll reach speeds up to 28mph as you coast down the winding track.

Spring Break Comedy Nights

Stop by The Collective in Snowmass during your spring break for weekly live comedy entertainment on Wednesday nights at 7:30 pm. Enjoy a variety of both local and out-of-state performers from places like DC and LA.

Meet writer, producer, actor, and musician Josh Adam Meyers, who hosts the Spotify podcast “The 500 with Josh Adam Meyers.” LA-based Sarah Tiana recently placed on Comedy Central’s “Roast Battle” and also wrote “Lights Out” with comedian David Spade.

Spring Break Music on the Mall

Snowmass continues its domination of fun social events with Music on the Mall, which takes place on Thursdays from 3–5 pm during March and April. Head to the Tower Stage on the Snowmass Mall for free live entertainment. Musical performances will feature local musicians, and you can celebrate by noshing on free s’mores while you listen. The 2022 spring lineup includes Oran Mor, The True Story Band, The Colorado Curry’s, Highway 82, and The True Story Band.

The Bud Light Spring (Break) Jam

The annual Bud Light Spring Jam at Aspen Snowmass celebrates the arrival of spring with music, snow sports, and activities for everyone. This free, week-long festival bridges the end of March and the beginning of April. Stop by to listen to the Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert Series, participate in some Night Skiing at the Little Nell, and watch numerous exciting snowsport competitions like the KickAspen big air competition. A highlight of this week is always the Helly Hansen 4 MTN Mission — sign up to follow clues and earn points across all four mountains!

Spring Break Dog Sledding

For a unique family spring break activity, book an hour-long dog sled ride with Krabloonik. Eight to ten Alaskan husky-mix sled dogs will guide your sled through the Snowmass backcountry, driven by an experienced musher. The Krabloonik dogs have been born, bred, and trained to run, so you’ll be in trusted paws.

Ice Skating at Snowmass Base Village

Ice skate for free during spring break at the Snowmass Ice Rink, right next to The Collective at Snowmass Base Village. Ice skate rentals and skating are both free, and you’ll find hot chocolate and snacks available at a nearby vendor cart once you’ve skated up an appetite.
